Our four-legged friends deserve healthy and home made treats.   Bake up a batch of these nutritious and delicious biscuits for your loyal companion today.  These biscuits are made from human grade food and are simply delicious.  I would encourage you to sample one for yourself, but be warned, if you do – you may never share them with your dog.   Woof!

2 cup rolled oats, old fashioned

1 ¼ cups butter

3 cups hot beef, chicken or vegetable stock (or 3 cups hot water and 3 tablespoons bullion)
1 ½ cups powdered milk
2 eggs, beaten (reserved a tablespoon for glazing if desired)
1 ½ cups cornmeal

3 cups whole wheat flour
3 cups all purpose flour

1/8 cup molasses

½ cup additional flour for rolling if needed

Preheat oven to 325 F.

Place oatmeal and butter in a large mixing bowl and cover with hot stock.  Rest these ingredients for three to five minutes to allow the oatmeal and butter to soften.

Add the beaten egg (reserve one tablespoon of egg if desired), powdered milk, cornmeal, and molasses.

Stir in the flour, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Knead the dough for three to four minutes, adding more flour if necessary, to create a dense dough.

Roll dough to ¼ inch thickness.

Cut with a bone shape cookie cutter, or other desired shapes, and place on a baking sheet.

Brush with reserved beaten egg, if desired.

Bake for 50 minutes. (2-3 inch biscuits) Allow to cool and dry until hard.

Store biscuits in an airtight container.

Yields approximately three pounds of dog biscuits

(continued)

Iced Biscuits (for special canine occasions)

1 cup confectioner’s sugar

2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons warm water

1 tablespoon powdered egg whites

Whisk all ingredients until glossy and stiff. Pipe the icing sparingly onto biscuits.

Meow!

Don’t forget your feline family members either.  Our cats, Clyde and Oscar,  love the little biscuits.

They make thoughtful holiday gifts.

    Julie,

The pictures look great! Elly had such fun making these with you. I’m not sure if the word got back to you, but Chaya loved the biscuits.

I just made dog biscuits this am then ran into this recipe. My biscuits were similar but I added bacon bits to half and parsley to the other half so I will see which one “puppy” likes the best.
